Cat has come to Sanibel Island to make decisions about her future. Colt is a photographer struggling with re-entry into society after Afghanistan. When they run into each other, literally, on the beach, sparks fly, but Cat is being threatened and Colt wants to be the one to make sure she is safe.
The description of the settings and characters in this book flow with the ease of an experienced writer, but the plot suffers from several problems. In the beginning, Colt pretty much fits the stereotype of a stalker, making Cat seem fairly naive for getting involved with him so quickly, especially since she suspects that she is being followed. Fairly early in the book, the threat to Cat escalates from stalker to hit man. Many characters join the story and do most of the investigating into the reason Cat has been targeted, and then tell Cat and Colt what they have found, making the middle of the book drag on and on as Cat and Colt remain in hiding. Both of the main characters are struggling with difficult pasts, which are too simply revealed and overcome. Overall, however, the shortcomings of the story are not enough to keep it from being a decent beach read.… (altro)
