This was a cracking read. Maybe I've read too many violent novels set in some kind of underworld, but I didn't find it so sick or look-away-violent. It was a peek into a world with which I'm gladly not familiar, and had enough humour and smarts to leaven the violence.

I waited forever to get a copy of this book here in the USA, I loved the authors first book A Tiger In Eden, but based on this book he should have retired after the first book. The first hundred pages are great, narrated by Ben who is a meth dealer at a carnival, then for some really bad reason the the narration changes to someone you the reader have not met and you get Ben's background. The rest of the book is narrated by Mekong Mikey the dirtbag who stole from Ben in the beginning of the book. Mikey speaks like a want to be American Rapper, and the sentences and rapidly the whole story become unreadable. The second novel from Irish born, Australian resident Chris Flynn, THE GLASS KINGDOM is one of those books that you're either going to get, or be horribly confused by. Review in full at Reviewing the Evidence

Read this book, you won't come across another one like I assure you. Take one part Irvine Welsh (a PG-13 version), add in The Ghosts Of Belfast by Stuart Neville, throw in some Buddhism and stage it on the beaches of Thailand and you have A Tiger In Eden. There is is no other book like this, and it is fantastic.
