Excellent book about Chapo Guzman (El Jefe = the boss) and how the FBI made its way into his organization. This is a taut tale that reads like fiction. If you're a fan of any of the Don Winslow books about the drug gangs of Latin America or have watched any of the TV series about the war on drugs, this book will pull you in and keep you engrossed. A story of a life on the run and the escapes [from prison] along the way. Obviously an amazing amount of research went into the book and it shows. Do not skip over the footnotes!… (altro)

Frederick Brosen's luminous watercolor paintings of New York are truly a joy. With near photographic sharpness and detail, these urban landscapes capture the stillness and quiet beauty of the city. Familiar Manhattan streets and landmarks seem refreshed, and scenes generally devoid of people allow the eye to focus on the architecture and the quiet grandeur of both the broad avenues and the narrow backstreets. Ric Burns provides an appropriately glowing introduction, and Alan Feuer's essays, short character studies tied to particular buildings, add a human element. Brosen's art is to be savored, studied and lingered upon, enabling new details to emerge and overall appreciation to grow.… (altro)
