This was a great book to pick up and read to escape from reality for a bit. Following the path of Eric Lindy as he discovered his power and worked to fit it into his life was captivating. After I read it I tried to imagine what it would be like to fly as he did. Very imaginative writing. Evans created characters and events that made me wish they were real.

I enjoyed this book. Humans with different powers did remind me a little of The Incredibles and X men. Each of those in the story with a power had a rough life prior to developing the power and that made the story a little less exiting. The main character discovers he can fly and I was a little jealous! Some interesting plot twists which I would have like a bit more fleshed out. I would read any sequels the author has to offer .

I will say that as far as the author's versions heaven/hell and angels/demons go, they're a little unique. The "powers that be" leaning more towards light/dark versus plain old good/evil in addition to sort of working together. The darkness and sole mission of the demons aren't to corrupt humanity either. The light and dark beings seemingly police the Dust of those who refuse to obey the rules using Jackson as the forcible dispenser of their rules. I am curious about the North-Lane ascension, it doesn't wholly explain what happens to the Dust, or are they not "sorted" as light and dark when they ascend? Are they all just in the North-Lane or are they spun out into new humans?

I enjoyed that the higher powers and religion as a whole grew with the progression of humanity. Azazel's reasoning behind his loss of speaking with an accent was an interesting thought. Order of Dust introduced us to the author's world and it mostly focused on the darkness that has crept into the city of New Ashton. I hope that the second novel will bring more understanding of the light because the background of the angels and Usra weren't explained with much detail. I would also like to see a little more explanation on how Dust is transferred. It doesn't sound as simple as the body-hopping demons I've seen encountered in Supernatural - if it is, the auctions and Carter's role doesn't make as much sense.

Jackson was a pretty safe average guy… then his fiance was murdered before his eyes and then he died. The higher powers stoked Jackson's anger and rage, no matter how small they may have been, for their own devices. Without them bringing it to the forefront, I don't believe that Jackson would have had the nerve to avenge his girl. Given the chance who wouldn't want the opportunity to do that? But… like magic, gifts like that ALWAYS come with a price. Going back and forth within Jackson's timeline (and others) made it a little difficult to follow along with the events at certain points. The other characters in the story interesting and I'm confident that we will learn more about them in the second book. I'm interested to see what parts they play in Jackson's story. I didn't see the twist Azazel threw in towards the end of the book either.

I would recommend Order of Dust to those who enjoy the supernatural, angels/demons, and good old fashioned tales of revenge. A big thank you to Parliament House Press for the opportunity to read and review this book - all opinions are my own.
