I found this one really challenging to read. The main thread with David and Jonathan was great, but there were a number of digressions that seemed unnecessary overall. I understand letting readers know what they went through when they were apart, but it was almost like the author was trying to tell three different stories and the result was that none of them truly resonated. Not to mention the fact that Jonathan's digression seemed to be unnecessarily gratuitous.

Perhaps it just wasn't for me...… (altro)

This book left me a little angry, sad and puzzled after reading it. I believe maybe, if i read it 2 or 3 years ago the results would have been different.

First of all, the writing is beautiful, i fell in love with it from the beginning. My problem was i didn't connect with our narrator from the get go and by the end of the book i really didn't know him. The same goes for the other characters too. At the end of it all, i did shed a tear, because damn! sad is sad. Books like this really make me appreciate the discussions we get to have after reading. Thank you my friends.

The story is taboo and i love the kind, what i felt between Ed and Alex was lust and obsession not love.

The writing got my attention, i will be checking out more.

Thanks so much my lovely Vir for this gift

I am a coward and I am not going to read this. There. I came out. That said, Please do not pick this book for me for any of the challenges.

I like my HEAs or at least HFNs. I am a cheerful person and wrote nothing but crack in my whole entire life. I even had my teachers laughing themselves off their chairs while reading my essay on War and Peace in high school. And no, not because of poor spelling. They gave me a C- for disrespect to the dear Mr. Lion the Fat. Granted, I was much funnier in those old days.

Never liked Ray Bradbury either, amazing as he is, for that same reason. I even cried (again) over a short article about Alan Turing I found in a magazine at my kids' music school two days ago. Nothing new, but gets me every time.

So, here's me - skipping the deep and meaningful awesomeness of this book and moving on to the shallower shinier waters drenched with sun and full of bright and sparkly little fishies. Occasional showers and thunderstorms are welcome, but only in quick passing.

I admit it, I'm shallow...I was first drawn to this book by its absolutely gorgeous cover. Then, I just loved the title; it's perfect, perfect, perfect for this historical short story revolving around a brief period in 1814 when the Thames froze over.

Now that I've read it, I'm enamoured of Erastes writing style and attention to detail.
