Emo Boy is a graphic novel based on Emo Boy (real name unknown) who is a freshmen in HS and "Emo Boy: Superheo. The World's Saddest Saviour". His powers include the ability to make girl's heads blow up by kissing them, make everyone puke and/or cry from emoism, drive others to suicide, out-emo the top "indy-nerd-core-screamo-geek-punk" band. Other powers are to be discovered later. This book might be taken as many things; among them a scathing inditement of society, a scathing criticism of emo based prejudice, a satire of emo, an emo proclamation, or a funny book. Seeing as it's the summer, I chose to take it as a funny book, for that it is to me. The commentary frequently reflects, in rather hilarious ways, teen-drama movies (a-la 'mean girls' or 'john tucker must die') as well as superhero dialogue (given that the main hero is a superhero)(though he has never won a fight). This book is a excellent read for those looking for something to read for fun, and might be taken into an english class (with the strong warning- be prepared for massively indecisive irony/sarcasm/satire/whatever- i couldn't figure it out when reading. be prepared as well, for the teacher to reject much as they would reject a rhetorical analysis of 'napolean dynamite')(again, i don't suggest you take it to school).
