Emo Boy is a graphic novel based on Emo Boy (real name unknown) who is a freshmen in HS and "Emo Boy: Superheo. The World's Saddest Saviour". His powers include the ability to make girl's heads blow up by kissing them, make everyone puke and/or cry from emoism, drive others to suicide, out-emo the top "indy-nerd-core-screamo-geek-punk" band. Other powers are to be discovered later. This book might be taken as many things; among them a scathing inditement of society, a scathing criticism of emo based prejudice, a satire of emo, an emo proclamation, or a funny book. Seeing as it's the summer, I chose to take it as a funny book, for that it is to me. The commentary frequently reflects, in rather hilarious ways, teen-drama movies (a-la 'mean girls' or 'john tucker must die') as well as superhero dialogue (given that the main hero is a superhero)(though he has never won a fight). This book is a excellent read for those looking for something to read for fun, and might be taken into an english class (with the strong warning- be prepared for massively indecisive irony/sarcasm/satire/whatever- i couldn't figure it out when reading. be prepared as well, for the teacher to reject much as they would reject a rhetorical analysis of 'napolean dynamite')(again, i don't suggest you take it to school). On the flip side, it is funny- read it!… (altro)

Emo Boy is a superhero with Emo superpowers. These mostly include emo lyrics, super-human sensitivity and making girls heads explode. As the back says, he is the world's saddest saviour. He loses his first love in a horrible and icky accident, he dances akwardly at an emo concert and has a lyric off with the lead singer causing him to get thrown out of their fan club. He also fails to committ suicide which has drastic consequences for the other students. He also losses at dodge ball when the other students use him as target practise.

Very silly, it pokes fun at emo culture (a type of music that came of the USA from punk and hardcore music with emotional lyrics) and style without being too mean. It's more a lighthearted homage to the genre.
