The first chapter is hilarious. The rest of the first half is disappointing, with a vain, self-absorbed narrator. The second half is a bit better. Two-and-a-half stars.

The first time I read this book, I was looking for the next 'Eat, pray, love'. This book starts out with brilliant satire on typical young "I will kick your ass on the yoga mat" people, that see yoga practice as some kind of tournament. But after the first chapter, Lucy Edge starts to write in a style that other reviewers have called "Eat Pray Love" meets "Shopaholic". After the second half, she gets some kind of epiphany and her writing style changes into something a little less self-absorbed.… (altro)

I wish this could have been better but it was quite tedious in most places punctuated with small bits of humor.

As a memoir, one has to give the author credit for showing you her innermost thoughts. Her thoughts mostly seemed to focus on getting a boyfriend, finding a more meaningful life and attaining the perfect yoga body. I don't want to disparage her yearning for these things — most of us are no better at prioritizing our goals, and since I have been married for many years I can't relate to the boyfriend-on-the-brain mentality. At least I don't remember it being quite that bad, but who am I to say now? However this did go on for way too long. Each yoga studio in India was going to lift her into that magic realm of peacefulness, open her chakras and find her a boyfriend. Each.and.every.yoga.studio.in.India.

In the end, I think she starts to get it. Kind of like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. When you leave home, you don't escape your problems. You bring them with you.

I hope she manages to bring peace to her life but not sure I will read the next memoir to find out.

Yoga School Dropout
by Lucy Edge

This book is cute, funny and has a lot of to offer us all. I have always admired the ability some people have to laugh at themselves, and this author does it with such finesse that it gave me permission to laugh at myself too (well at least snicker). This is a exciting first person account of what happens when an over indulging seeker in the wonderful world of advertising finally gets the calling to see what life spiritually has to offer.

I love Lucy's descriptive style of writing, it is so relaxed and dedicated to detail that I felt like I was right there in India, on her travels with her. Sometimes I think as a seeker it is easy to get caught in a rut of enlightened channels so deep that it becomes hard to see the truth, and this blessed gift of sunshine has done just that for me. There is an expression, "out of the mouth of babes" and this book brings a vitally needed refreshing look at spirituality and our quest for it. I would recommend this one to all who seek, love, light and happiness and who sometimes fine the process a little confusing and a lot funny. Thanks Lucy, for your precious gift of humor.

Love & Light,
