D'Urfey: Pills to purge melancholy. {Sound… di Thomas D'Urfey
D'Urfey is always worth hearing or reading, with his house-blend of art and outrage. Consequently, any performance, to be fully first-rate, should combine those two elements. Sadly, this recording, while -- as the fashionable saying goes -- "historically informed", lacks the moxie, the outright joy in lust, which gives an overall and memorable quality to less "authentic" recordings like the McCurdy/Arkin classics from the late Fifties. Still, for those who don't know D'Urfey, this isn't a bad intro, provided the listener brings certain lubricity to make it all work.… (altro)
