"The Auschwitz Violinist" is the third book I've read in this series and while I enjoyed it, I felt I was reading the same things as in the first two novels - a murder happens and Adam has to solve it.

I like Adam as a protagonist and have enjoyed the historical setting and the references to the Holocaust. Still, there has been no character development, too much emphasis on trivial things such as Adam's smoking or the food he eats, and there was a lack of tension and excitement. I don't know if I can be bothered with any more. To keep me interested in a series, I need more.… (altro)

"The Dead Sister" was the second Adam Lapid mystery I have read. This time Adam is hired by an Arab man to find out who killed his sister. For some reason, the police won't investigate the crime so Adam decides to do it for them and seek justice for the girl. Soon he finds himself embroiled in the sex trade and uncovers police corruption.

While I enjoyed "The Dead Sister", I don't think it was quite as good as the first novel in the series. I felt the author often included unnecessary detail and I didn't think the plot moved as quickly as it did in book one.

However, I haven't been put off the series. I like Adam as a protagonist and feel sorry for the way he is haunted by the past and his experiences during the Holocaust, so I am off to find the next instalment.

This was the first book in a series that stars Auschwitz survivor, Adam, Lapid, a former Hungarian police detective. Adam moved to Tel Aviv to help fight for Israel's independence after spending time bringing Nazi officers to justice, having lost his wife, parents, sisters and two daughters during the Holocaust.

Adam was a tough, but compassionate, protagonist. Although flawed and wounded, and suffering from the loss of his family, Adam wants to make the world a better place. Throughout the novel, he demonstrates tenacity, strength and resilience. He was hired by a woman searching for her son after giving him to a friend for safekeeping ten years ago when life in Germany became intolerable. From the start, I liked Adam and thought he was a well-written character.

I also found the setting interesting. The author brought Tel Aviv alive with his descriptions and the author had clearly done his research. Although this was the first novel by Dunsky that I have read, it definitely won't be my last.

With plenty of plot twists and action, "Ten Years Gone" was an entertaining read and I look forward to reading more about Adam Lapid.
