Leonard Dubkin (1905–1972)

Too self-referential. The author loses his journalist job and pursues employment half-heartedly for an entire year, but also finds himself examining and appreciating the lives of the little critters he finds in Chicago. Someone suggests he write a book, and this is the result. Way too self referential and not presented in an interesting manner. Deservedly obscure. Worth what I paid for it - $0.

This is one of my favorite books. It basically describes what happens when you monitor a single animal from actual birth. Leonard Dubkin had this experience with a white albino bat, and it is as fascinating as it sounds. Furthermore, it takes place in downtown Chicago within a tiny vestige of undisturbed property. That is all I will say. Read it.
