A good nonfiction series for children in grades 1 to 4. Includes good close-up photographs of some animals and birds that live in the Rocky Mountains of Canada, with 4 to 5 pages of facts about their habitats, diet, young, predators and habits. Donaldson includes:

A good introductory science reader for grades 1 to 4, this book describes 10 creatures found in Canada's coastal waters. Each creature is appealingly portrayed with 3 to 5 pages of good photos and interesting facts about their life and habitat. A map of Canada at the beginning shows where the animals may be found on Canada's Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic coasts. Donaldson includes:
starfish
Pacific salmon
eels
octopuses
Atlantic puffins
great cormorants
sea otters
sea lions
Dall's porpoises, and
humpback whales.
An interesting nonfiction book for lower elementary school students, at home or in the classroom. Recommended.
