Reading Level: Grades 6th grade and up

Good for introduction into the subject. Help students choose a topic to focus on for study. The book included a great glossary and resource list with well documented facts for further exploration. Target age stated on book is 12-15 but younger readers can pick it up if they are willing to read the side bars and use additional resources available. Good book for homeschooling families with multiple ages.

I really liked this book especially for hi/lo or reluctant readers. Easy to pick up and put down or dive into and read a chunk all at once. Great glossary and resources listed in the book and the website for Nomad Press has teachers guides to expand learning possibilities. Book suggests it is written for ages 10-13 but I think it could be used for older students as an introduction to new subjects.

The concept for the this book is great, but very hard to pull off and make interesting for this age group. Each chapter dedicated to certain disasters. And each chapter is told from a characters point of view. Heavy text and very few graphics makes for very difficult reading.

Tomb Raiders: Real Tales of Grave Robberies, by Judy Dodge Cummings, explores many graves/tombs that have been the site of robberies. The book explores stories from Jamestown, where some gruesome events took place, a plot to steal the corpse of Abraham Lincoln, tomb robbers of the ancient pyramids, and a few other mysterious stories. A few of the stories were a bit gruesome in detail, but easily kept my curiosity wanting to read more. Each story was presented with a great detail of historical information so the reader could easily understand the background that led up to the possible robbery/vandalism of a grave.

I like that this book was written and illustrated in black and white. That goes well with the grave robbery theme. I enjoyed all the images, the maps to show locations, and the historical information presented throughout the book. Each story started with an image of the location and then a zoomed out image of the world with a star marking, “You Are Here”. This was a nice what to see the location on a larger scale.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and learning about some of these, very different, events.
