Franklin W. Dixon Franklin W. Dixon is actually a pseudonym for any number of ghostwriters who have had the distinction of writing stories for the Hardy Boys series. The series was originally created by Edward Stratmeyer in 1926, the same mastermind of the Nancy Drew detective series, Tom Swift, mostra altro the Rover Boys and other characters. While Stratmeyer created the outlines for the original series, it was Canadian writer Leslie McFarlane who breathed life to the stories and created the persona Franklin W. Dixon. McFarlane wrote for the series for over twenty years and is credited with success of the early collection of stories. As the series became more popular, it was pared down, the format changed and new ghostwriters added their own flavor to the stories. Part of the draw of the Hardy Boys is that as the authors changed, so to did the times and the story lines. While there is no one true author of the series, each ghostwriter can be given credit for enhancing the life of this series and never unveiling that there really is no Franklin W. Dixon. La casa sulla scogliera (serie Hardy boys) di Franklin W. Dixon
Fenton Hardy scompare all'improvviso e di lui non si riesce a saper nulla. Due pirati moderni in motoscafo se ne vanno tranquilli all'abbordaggiodi una barca che porta un passeggero e l'affondano senza complimenti lanciando con perizia bombe a mano. Infine poi in quella vecchia casa abbarbicata là sulla scogliera pare che se la spassino i fantasmi e che il diavolo parli ad alta voce. Che mai succede ? È quello che i due Hardy vorrebbero scoprire con urgenza: ma l'avversario questa volta è astuto e non vuol rinunciare ai bei profitti che gli procuarno il furto e il contrabbando. Ma Frank e Joe non cedono le armi perchè il gioco ha una posta altissima che nel caso è la vita di papà.… (altro)
Non capita a tutti di ricevere in eredità, grazie ad uno zio buonanima, un'eterogenea collezione di oggetti di ogni tempo e di ogni paese. Questa volta il fortunato è un amico di Frank e Joe. che alla fine dell'inventario si ritrova tra le braccia addirittura... uno scheletro. Di plastica, per fortuna. L'opinione dei tre giovani è che si tratti di roba di scarso valore, tranne qualche pezzo di relativo interesse archeologico. Ma c'è quancuno che assolutamente non è d'accordo; anzi, è tanto interessato ad entrare in possesso di certi misteriosi medaglioni, che non si fa scrupolo di ricorrere prima all'inganno e poi alla forza. Questo qualcuno ha l'inconsueta abitudine di bruciare frammenti di esotico legno qua e là. dove gli capita: magari anche all'interno di un prezioso sarcofago egizio. Inizia così un'intricata avventura che alla fine vedrà Frank e Joe attraversare le secolari foreste peruviane, nel tentativo di scoprirel'affascinante mistero di un'antica città sepolta.… (altro)
Le azioni petrolifere rendono bene ai loro fortunati possessori quando i pozzi esistono sul serio. Ma se li ha trivellati la fantasia, allora le azioni rendono soltanto a che le stampa e riesce a farsele pagare. Così ha fatto Pedro il Messicano che ora vuol godere in pace i frutti del suo diuturno, disonesto lavoro e dedicarsi all'innocente hobby di marchiare a fuoco gli avversari.
