I think that young students would love this book and the fun animal facts inside. At first I wasn't crazy about the lack of connection between animals, but grew to like it as the book went on, especially for younger students. I do wish that there were some more non-fiction text features and that the book had a reference page of some sort, or shared how the authors learned what they taught us. Overall, an enjoyable book for young students to giggle at and learn some interesting animal facts.

This book is so incredible! I love every aspect of this book, especially the illustrations, writing, and the language.
The illustrations by Spurgeon are so great. They are especially remarkable because of how well they contribute to the text. Each illustration is crucial to the text itself because of the way it carries the text, almost creating a second (but related) story. There is also an added humor to each illustration, giving a light and enjoyable atmosphere for the reader. I like the section where the animal pictured is approaching the sun with a tired look on his face, sweat dripping down his face, and a portable fan in his hand. It is so great because the text below the image is talking about the Sun and how hot it gets.

The writing is great because of how engaging it is. There is a flow and pace that mimics a story, easing the reader into the information presented and creating a fun atmosphere. I like the page where the author writes, “Okay, okay maybe you knew those things…” because it gives the reader a chance to feel powerful and knowledgeable in a humorous way.

The language utilized in this example and throughout the book is a third (but not final) reason why I like this book so much. It is so descriptive and patterned without becoming too complicated for the reader and while still challenging them. For instance, the sentences are lengthier and fluid, but the word choices are more simple, like this sentence: “Speaking of sports, during one space mission, an astronaut named Alan Shepard hit a golf ball while on the moon!” Although the sentence is long, the language and words are clear.

Overall, I find this to be an amazing book full of great information and fun facts about the universe. I love each element it brings, especially the illustrations, writing, and language, and I love how I am excited to read and learn!
