Mary Angela Dickens (1862–1948)

Mary Angela Dickens was the oldest granddaughter of Charles Dickens, the famous novelist, and a niece of the noted barrister and judge Sir Henry Fielding Dickens. With the death of her paternal grandfather, her father Charles inherited the All Year Round periodical, and Mary published some of her earliest work in this publication. She produced several sentimental and melodramatic novels during the decade of the 1890s including Cross Currents (1891), A Mere Cypher (1893), A Valiant Ignorance (1894), Prisoners of Silence (1895), Against the Tide (1897), and On the Edge of a Precipice (1899). In later years, her work became less popular, and she ended her writing career by the age of 40.

Mary Angela Dickens was known as Mamie Dickens. Mamie Dickens was also the common name of her aunt Mary Dickens. Mary Angela is the granddaughter of Charles Dickens and sister of Charles Dickens, Jr. This Mamie Dickens wrote many novels and children's stories. Her aunt wrote exclusively about Charles Dickens and her relationship with him.
