You usually don’t think “edgy” when it comes to Christian fiction, but the Good Book Club is edgy and witty, with a bunch of sarcastic humor thrown in in just the right amounts. The author takes you right up to the line of Christian/Secular and doesn’t cross it, kind of like a new believer who is learning to leave the trash of the world behind. The story is about Jane Sunday a detective with a lot of emotional baggage, who is asked to investigate the senior pastor of her church. The person doing the asking is the junior pastor who also happens to be his son-in-law. Jane doesn’t want to take the job, but reconsiders when she realizes that it may save the church from scandal. This is not an open and shut case, and it gets more complicated when the junior pastor is murdered. Trying to solve this one has Jane in a mystery that is more diabolical than Godly.
You won’t come away spiritually enlightened by this book, but if you just want to read an interesting murder mystery with a wise cracking detective than this is one to check out. 4 stars for making me laugh. I reviewed this complimentary copy for the author, and read it on my kindle.… (altro)
