Great detail, photos, descriptions of kinds of boxes, the history of hinges, methods that have been used to apply ornamentation.

Lots of information about European silver boxes, well-organized and -illustrated. The author's old-fashioned style of presentation doesn't detract. An index would have been useful as would, especially, an index to the illustrations, as they do not quite follow along with the text. One can easily figure it out, but it's smoother reading if one doesn't have to.
