Beautiful illustrations and detailed maps.
Documents Jewish history from ancient times to the mid-1900's. Discusses the diaspora, the Holocaust, and the creation of Israel as a nation. It contains reproductions of art and photographs.
Judaism is made up of complex elements. Nicholas de Lange offers a slim, but thorough introduction. After an introduction addressing the question of what is Judaism without over simplifying, de Lange addresses aspects of Judaism chapter by chapter. These elements include the legal tradition, eschatology, theology, and worship. The language and feel of the book is very academic. While this may put off the lay reader, it may make a good introduction and resource for students of religion.
