ALASKA AND ITS RESOURCES di William H. Dall
Lots and lots of interesting trivia as well as lots and lots of dull and boring facts. very well written and for the most part, fascinating. I was reading along and came to, on page 478, the following quote which I chuckled over for a good portion of the evening:

"Boulder Island produces, according to Grewingk, 'earthcream (!), or edible earth, consisting of pure gypsum without infusoria.' This statement needs explanation."

That is the kind of writing I live for. A couple of sentences which absolutely made my day! His explanation for glacial epochs on page 459 is also a treat....… (altro)
