I highly recommend this story to anyone who would appreciate a more intimate look at what Syrian (and other) refugees face in their struggle to reach safety and a new life. Initally , Currie started his pilot training in England where he was born. However, he quickly found himself sent to the state of Georgia in the land of Dixie for most of his flight training. At the beginnjing, he was in a grouip of fellow RAF students instructed by civilian Americans who spent a large amount of time educating them to life in the USA.

Once he moved on to more advanced training, he was moved to an USAAF base and US military instructors. Here he & his RAF mates were harassed and abused. He also experienced the racial divide in the land of Dixie.

A wonderful, readable account of English fliers being trained in the US before returning home to fly fighters & bombers over Europe. It is also a social history of the Southern US through the eyes of an Englishman.
