An eclectic look at Australian History framed around a collection of objects from prior to European settlement through to the present day. Each section is easy to read and informative, although the quality of the research is rather variable. Any such collection must inevitably reflect the author's tastes and biases. It was notable that as I approached the present day, four Labor prime ministers had their own section (Chifley, Whitlam, Rudd and Gillard), but only one Liberal (Menzies). John Howard was mentioned in passing several times, but only once favourably (in the section on the Port Arthur massacre).… (altro)
