- Frances "Daisy" Greville, née Maynard, Countess of Warwick, was born in Essex, England, the daughter of Colonel Charles Maynard and his wife Blanche Fitzroy. As a child, she inherited her grandfather's wealthy estates. In 1881, she married Francis Greville, Lord Brooke, the future 5th Earl of Warwick, with whom she had five children. As Lady Brooke, she became an accomplished society host and member of the Marlborough House Set centered on the Prince of Wales, the future King Edward VII. She became involved in affairs with the Prince as well as with several other powerful men. Later in life, she published her memoirs, Life's Ebb and Flow (1929), today considered one of the most informative memoirs on British Edwardian society. She was also a noted philanthropist, an avid cyclist, and a committed pacifist, socialist and trade unionist.
