The author examines closely the disappearance of peoples whose ways of life
were incalculably old. His insights are the result of his many personal ties
and living experiences among primitive men; of witnessing tribes that were once
proud and independent reduced to a handful of dejected and bewildered
survivors. He calls into question some of the accepted "solutions" that are
intended, at this late hour, to save the remaining traditional societies from
total extinction.
