Evocation sensible et assez inspirée de la vie de Vincent van Gogh, incarné de manière convaincante par Kirk Douglas. Scénario crédible, respectueux de la réalité historique et servi par des dialogues de qualité. Sa quête de pureté, d’absolu et d’amour, son incandescence, sa rage de peindre, la relation qui le liait à son frère sont bien restituées.

Ruth, a young Moabite woman, marries Mahlon the Judean, who believes in a merciful God. When he dies, she leaves her own culture to be with her mother-in-law, Naomi. They journey to Judea where Ruth faces hostility as a stranger. She wins the hearts of two powerful men, Boaz and Tob, who vie for her affections, but Ruth's first loyalties are to Naomi and her faith. Starring Peggy Wood and Stuart Whitmann. Not Rated. Approx. 135 minutes.
The Bible makes no mention of the child Ruth serving in a pagan temple as portrayed in the movie though it is not unthinkable. Otherwise, the movie follows the story fairly well. This film is a good overview of the story of Ruth.
