What a book. I'm not a parent so I can't even begin to imagine what divorce does to a family unit and how parents balance that with other responsibilities and life in general but this book gave a pretty clear picture. I didn't realize the movie was based on a book and after reading the book, I'm interested to see how it played out in movie form. I found myself cheering and yelling with the main character throughout the book and just when I thought it was going to be an ending worthy of making me mad, Corman turned it around and gave me the ending I hoped for. A really great book. The writing style was hard to get used to at first but it's worth hanging in there for.… (altro)

It scores over the film by taking us into Joanna's mind and showing us the reasons for her actions; there's also some good colourful incidental detail which is missing from the film (the housekeeper, the grandparents, Ted's love life). We have the same twist ending though.
