This story is a bit bizarre.
The bones of the story is good but it was the Hero's attitude that I struggled with.
He's painted at the start as a hard man who only shows his softer side with his wife.
The premise of the story is his wife is reported dead but he believes she left him and is bitter about it, views it as a betrayal.
That was fine but when he sees a woman who resembles his wife and believes is his wife, in her new life, he kidnaps her so he can get an explanation without her running away again.
The issue I had was the treatment of her from this point on.
The heroine in the story, whether she is his wife or not(that's the huge question throughout the book), she has lost her memory after a brutal, near death attack, she has fought her way to good health.
The Hero after he learns that she underwent this still is hard with her, cruel.

There are lots of red herrings.

Lots of other woman drama in the sense that there is a woman who would like to be his next Mrs.
During the separation the Hero hasn't been involved with anyone else.
The heroine is friends with a man who would like more but she doesn't feel that way about him.

HEA.

Was wanting to read something "light" and somehow chose this book which I got free for my kindle. It was not what I expected at all but really enjoyed it. Vary much a romantic suspense story. No bad language. No graphic sex. Just basically a good, fast read of a couple who fall in love amidst some very strange circumstances. The one negative was that the editor did a terrible job with this one. Lots of typos, grammatical errors, etc. If that distracts you too much, you may want to stay clear of this one.… (altro)

Heroine Jillian Jones's best friend Courtney died recently when she fell off a high balcony to her death. (Courtney was a bride-to-be at Sutton Hall, a destination-wedding mansion located in the mountains of Vermont.) Knowing Courtney didn't like heights, Jillian thinks it was something more than an accident. Jillian eventually goes to Sutton Hall to do some undercover investigating, pretending that she's a bride-to-be who wants to be married at Sutton Hall. She meets the owners, Meredith Sutton and Meredith's brother, hero Adam. Jillian starts looking around and asking questions. She is also attracted to Adam. But Adam is suspicious of her motives. He loves his sister and he wants Sutton Hall's weddings to be a success. Soon, there are attempts on Jillian's life. Who wants to murder the future brides at Sutton Hall?

This was a really enjoyable read. Jillian was a gutsy heroine. She really cared about her friend Courtney and she wanted to know what happened to her. There were some tense moments when Jillian's life was at stake. Adam was a good hero. I liked the setting, Sutton Hall, with its gothic atmosphere, secret passageways, and interesting cast of characters/suspects.

Oh dear. I've liked this authors's books in the past, but this one fell flat. Unbelievable thriller plot, characters who we are told fall in love (in 48 hours) but don't see on-page evidence, and a very thin setting.
