Elisabeth Cleve was a psychologist, child psychotherapist and supervisor who worked at the Erica Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden, from the mid-1970s until her untimely death in 2013. I picked this one up mainly because I was curious to see exactly how one performs psychotherapy on a two-year-old. The child in this case, a Swedish boy named Victor, had lost his mother and baby brother in a car accident, and he and his father were foundering. The book describes clearly and in great detail how, through play therapy, and with the support of his father and extended family, little Victor came to terms with his loss. The therapist was herself often overwhelmed emotionally during the sessions, and the reader might be too, because it was all so tragic and Victor was so brave. He would be around thirteen or so now, I believe. The book ends with an update on him at the age of six, as a happy, healthy first-grader. I hope he is still happy today.… (altro)
