Ann Cleeves was born in 1954 in England. She studied English at Sussex University. She then became a British crime-writer. In 2006 she won the Duncan Lawrie Dagger which is the richest crime-writing prize in the world, for her novel Raven Black. Breve biografia: Ann Cleeves (born 1954) is a British crime-writer. In 2006 she won the inaugural Duncan Lawrie Dagger, the richest crime-writing prize in the world, for her novel Raven Black. Cleeves studied English at Sussex University but dropped out. She then took up various jobs including cook, auxiliary coastguard, probation officer, library outreach worker and child care officer. She lives in Whitley Bay, and is married with two daughters.

Ann Cleeves sceglie le affascinanti isole Shetland, come teatro di questo thriller.
La notte di capodanno nel silenzio ovattato dalla neve una donna viene uccisa. Dopo le prime pagine ricche di tensione, il romanzo si fa sonnolento man mano che l'indagine del detective Perez procede, fino ad indugiare eccessivamente su dettagli di poco conto. Manca la grande arte dei possenti giallisti che disseminano piccoli indizi, come sassolini, mettendo alla prova il bravo e appassionato lettore.
