Hmmm...

I am a little at a loss here. There is a part of me that LOVES the idea and premise of this story and how the author took such a risk on putting a paranormal twist on this world and still making it current. The other part of me is a little bummed because it did not live up to my expectations, risk or not. This is mainly because the transitions were awkward or disjointed, and others because there were a lot of areas that I wanted to flesh out more than they were. However, trying to connect with Evan and Caro and even Caro with Aubrey felt stiff and forced.

I loved the idea of the implanted chip in the backdrop of the story. In fact, that really intrigued me as I was just reading about that very thing happening in real life recently. It is both fascinating and a tad "Big Brother is watching" scary. I was hoping the author was going to expand on that idea a bit more but instead it got a little convoluted between this, the paranormal twist, trying to keep up a friendship with Aubrey, and the mysterious bad person. Which is a shame because the premise of the story had the potential to be SO good. Unfortunately, all of that combined prevented me from enjoying this story to the fullest extent. I would have been happy if the focus was on the chip and just as an offchance having the creator being a vampire. Instead, I was all over the place, wondering about Lucy the cat, mountain lions, and Romania on top of everything else.

I appreciate the hard work of this author and the dedication to the craft. While this one was not my favorite, I do applaud the stepping outside the box and taking the risk. It was refreshing to see.
