I enjoyed reading the book, "The Runaway Valentine." I liked this book for several reasons. First, I liked the perspective of the book and how the story was told through the valentine card's eyes, rather than a human. I thought this was unique because it made the story more interesting. For example, the valentine falls from the shelf at the store, and exhibits the feelings of being neglected on Valentine's Day. The card repeats, "Nobody wants me," and goes through different uses until someone finds the perfect use for the remainder of the card. I also liked the main idea of the story. This story started off really fun. Playing on the urban legend of gators in the NYC sewer. About half way through the story almost seems like a 2nd story. A bit disjointed.

The illustrations were fun as were the wacky circumstances the gators ended up in.

My 4 year old is weeks later still asking me if I am sure there are really no gators below our house.

This is a story about the legend that says gators live in the sewers in New York City. It is very silly and at times doesn’t really make much sense to me. For example, it says there must be alligators in the sewer because who else would fill in for the tooth fairy when she is sick? I just didn’t get the humor and I do not foresee using it in a program or suggesting it to anyone.
