Cracklin’ Rosie by Jennifer Lynn Cary is a Historical Christian romance and the fourth installment in the Weather Girls Wedding Shoppe and Venue series. I could not put this book down like the previous books in this series.

Rose Crackinbush, D.C., starts setting up her new “modern” office as a chiropractic. She encounters a jokester, MD, who leaves a bad first impression. But when her best friend marries the prankster’s twin brother, she spends more time with him. As they get to know each other, they discover they may need to rethink their opinions of each other.

Although you could read this book independently, I recommend reading the books in the Weather Girls series and the first three books. This way, you gain a greater appreciation for the setting, the storylines, and the characters that form the backbone of this series.

So, if you enjoy Christian historical romances, check out Cracklin’ Rosie by Jennifer Lynn Cary and both series for yourself. I recommend these books and this author.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

It was fun delving into a new book in The Weather Girls Wedding Shoppe and Venue series. “Cracklin' Rosie,” with an early 70s setting, brought a strong sense of nostalgia to me. I enjoy the humor and heart this romantic comedy delivers. There are many references that made me smile and brought me back to my younger days.

It’s easy to connect with Rosie and empathize with her when others don’t look favorably on her career as a chiropractor. It’s fun to witness Rosie and Brett, both stubborn and independent, interact. It’s almost an opposites-attract story, but they’re alike in some ways.

This story is entertaining and fun, with a thread of faith throughout that I loved. This is a wonderful series for those who enjoy clean romance with depth and humor. The story works as a standalone, but don’t miss out on the rest of the series.

First Line: Rose Crackinbush knew better.
Series: The Weather Girls Wedding Shoppe and Venue, book 4
Genre: Christian Historical Romance, RomCom
Author: Jennifer Lynn Cary
Page Count: 326

This series has been so fun to read. I love how the author opens up the story with a funny encounter with a cat and a fellow doctor for Rose. I adore her last name and the song that it is based on. I can hear the song in my head. I grew up in the seventies so I knew this story would bring me down memory lane. Ok I did laugh at Rose’s last name. I couldn’t wait to follow Rose in her adventure as a doctor opening her own clinic.

Meeting Brett may be be a challenge for Rose as they are both doctors trying to start their own clinic up. I found him to be a little pushy, funny and a challenge that will have readers furiously turning pages to see what happens between this pair. When Brett finds out that Rose is a chiropractor he sure acts a little weird. His outburst at the coffee shop turns heads. Now Rose’s temper is getting to her but stands her ground. Let the competition begin.

Oh my the humor in the story is great. Well Brett thinks he is funny but Rose doesn’t quite see him as funny. I loved the references to The Mary Tyler Moore show and others that bring this time period to life. The author does a great job of making the story realistic with perfect snippets of favorite shows and songs from the seventies. I miss those days sometimes but I can always go back there whenever I want as I reread this story.

The story takes a look at how hard it was in the seventies to not only be a woman doctor but specialize in the field of being a Chiropractor. Rose seems to always have to defend her career and at times there are grumbling among the doctors. When a big announce is about to be made Rose is anxious to hear who has been chosen to be on the team. Brett really steps up to defend Rose in a very public way. I liked how the author incorporated faith in the story. Trust is a big issue between Brett and Rose as they try to decide if they could ever be a couple.

I loved the story and how the author gave me a look back at a time period where memories of listening to the songs mentioned in the story were nice. The best part of the story is a gentle message of going to God to seek answers and believing in yourself. A little nod to the cardinal is the perfect ending to this delightful story.

“Misunderstandings will mess up relationships faster than anything.”

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Quite a trip, this book, Cracklin’ Rosie by Jennifer Lynn Cary! I actually lived through this time as a young child and loved all the references to the time period as they continued into the next decade, as well. So accurate, the attitudes of strong women’s liberation and young women trying to figure out how to support that and yet fulfill dreams of home and a family. Men realizing that women’s dreams and needs were changing.
I had to look up the lyrics and even the possible meaning behind Neil Diamond’s song. So many songs of that time seemed to hold a hidden meaning. Love it when a book causes me to dig a little deeper.
Very interesting that both Rosie and Brett are strong Christians, yet as products of their times and culture, have to figure out how best to live out their faith without losing their identity. I must say, Rodie is a main character I found it hard to like through most of the book, for the huge chip she carried on her shoulder.
I received a copy of the book through Celebrate Lit and also bought my own copy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.
Notable Quotables:

“Only know you can discuss anything with me. I won’t judge, and I promise not to try to fix. I’m just a sounding board who is on your side.”

“Was he a man of integrity only when it was convenient or even when it was hard?”

“But I’m choosing to forgive because the alternatives offer no healing.”
