Grreat concept and an execution that verges on virtuosic at times. Simple, covers everything you want, mostly at the length you want it, coarse paper so easy on the pocketbook, is in itself a pocketbook, in that it fits in your pocket, lots of entries on current phoneticians and phonologists, which acclimates you in a way that scientists don't always seem to think it necessary to do, with their fetishism of the study as opposed to the individual body of work . . . .great intro and reference for the student of phonology or the academic/professional in a related field. My only complaint is a slight dearth of depth in that most perplexing of areas, phonological features (you know, all that plus-minus shit. Keep me talking about palates and velums like a phonetician, I'm happy; but I guess it is good to get some fluency in DORSAL, +HIGH -BACK and so on too. Always good to learn a new language. But this book won't necessarily help you too much in that particular regard).… (altro)
