It is strongly suggested that those serious about deaf ministry utilize this book and workbook along with the author's shared experiences during their ministry training and in-service training as a guide for setting up a new deaf ministry or revamping an existing one to develop a successful deaf ministry.
Our goal in Deaf ministry should be to minister the empowering Gospel of Christ to Deaf individuals so that they can become disciples and leaders within their own community, winning others to Christ. When interpreters are effective in their role, they can prepare Deaf members to lead, minimizing their dual roles as interpreters and ministry leaders. When they do these things, they are well on their way to becoming a 21s Century Deaf Ministry.
A 21st Century Deaf Ministry is a ministry that recognizes the technological advances of today’s society, recognizes the differences between both the hearing church and the Deaf community, and uses that information to develop a plan to advance the Kingdom of God. It understands the importance of teaching, training, and evangelism. It is “Christ centered and people focused.
While most Deaf ministries and organizations have lost their influence, how will the ministry you are involved in respond to the growing cultural and technological demands placed on the 21st Century Deaf Ministry? Will you step up and welcome God’s presence to meet the needs of this present generation? It is the author's prayer that your Deaf ministry will emerge and manifest a hunger and thirst to advance God’s kingdom, utilizing the language of the Deaf, American Sign Language, using the Word of God, and taking advantage of all the tools and resources available to win lost souls for Christ. If your team does, you too can become a 21st Century Deaf Ministry!
The author's prayer is, as you read this book and its supporting workbook and apply its principles, your ministry will move from survival to stability to success to significance and become a model 21st Century Deaf Ministry.
