Great ideas. I have picky kids with lots of food allergies so not sure how we're going to move to a vegan diet, but this gives me some great ideas nad recipes.

I’ve had this cookbook from the library for quite a bit of time and I’m glad that I had time with it. I don’t need to own it though. Too many recipes would need too much tweaking for me. Too much coconut, vegan yogurt, vinegar, mustard, and some other ingredients I don’t like or don’t want to consume. Too many that require equipment I don’t have such as a blender or pressure cooker, etc. Most of them are common kitchen implements so their inclusion wouldn’t be a hindrance for most home cooks.

There are some really interesting flavor combinations in some of the recipes that I hope to remember in order to try them in my own concoctions. I could see borrowing this book again. I could see many cookbook readers & home cooks wanting this as an owned book.

I’m really tired of coconut being presented as healthy but it seems to be the case now for the majority of vegan cookbooks. There are so many other better options! I supposed it could be the allergen issue that makes coconut so popular over nuts, beans, grains, and other options that work in recipes and in my opinion are healthier and taste better.

There are so many helpful tips that can make this a keeper. There are also helpful lists such as which recipes are recommended for potlucks, which recipes freeze well, food storage tips, etc.

There are gorgeous photos of all the recipes and on each of their pages. That is a huge plus for me! I loved the colored paper edges that separate out the different recipe sections. It’s a beautiful book.

Some recipes I would like to try, some with tweaking (and with significant tweaking I could have listed many more): from Breakfast Vibes: the Pressure Cooker Pumpkin Steel-Cut Oats and the Next-Level Avocado Toast; from The Salad Bowl: Bread-End Croutons, Potato Croutons, and the Fresh Fruit Salad; from Noshing: Dips, Spreads, Nibblers: Good Day Sunshine Hummus, Avo-Mame Hummus, What-aMole, Beany Blinis, and the Cashew Cream. From Dinner Plates: Pressure-cooker Qucken Noodle Soup. Aush Soup, Curried Carrot and Lentil Soup, Zucchini Fritters, Baked Onion Rings, Luscious Avocado Pasta, Pumpkin Seed Pesto Pasta (yes!), Soulful Shepherd’s Pie (another yes!), Quinoa-Lentil Stir Fry, Fiesta Taco Filling. From Holiday Fare: Holiday Dinner Torte, Cran-Apple Compote, and the Golden Gravy. From Home Sweet Home: Shmoopy Cookies, Nummy Brownie Bite, Yellow Sweet Potato Cake (though I’m even more interested in trying her Chocolate Sweet Potato Cake in her book Plant-Powered Families , Dreamy Fudge Sauce, Dessert Cashew Cream, Strawberry Sauce Forever, and the 2-Ingredient Watermelon Gelato.

It's important for others to know that the above are not representative of the recipes included in the book. There are a huge variety of recipes in each section and my tastes do not reflect that variety. Some of the other recipes look delicious to me but I would personally need to tweak them so much that they wouldn’t closely resemble the recipes on the page. The above is my taste only.

Dreena’s Kind Kitchen (2022) by Dreena Burton. This book arrived in the mail through the Goodreads program many weeks ago. Somehow I set it aside and didn’t locate it until a few days ago. Which turned out fortunately in my favor. My wife, who does the lion’s share of the cooking around here, thought it was for her and snuck in a few meals from this cookbook. I have nothing against vegan food as long as it doesn’t announce itself as being BETTER than other foods. It must, as with any edible, be wholesome, nutritious and taste good. Portions should have some type of calorie count (which this book doesn’t) so you can more easily figure out a balanced meal.
Not knowing what the ingredients in the food I was eating, I discovered many, many delicious servings coming my way. And I did lose a pound or two, although your results may vary.
Besides the actual foods that I ate, the thing that impressed me the most was the section titled “From Grocery Store to Chopping Board, with the FAQ information following a close second. Food safety is very important around our house and Ms. Burton stresses how easy it is, with a little knowledge and forethought, to keep a kitchen safe for all.
There are sections for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as desserts and noshes for the “in-betweens”. I won’t bother to call out certain recipes as everything I’ve tried has been between good and excellent.
As a plus there are handy indexed guides for cooking beans and grains tossed in. With the rising cost of food stuffs happening all around us, it is nice to have an alternative to the higher priced items out there.

100+ Whole-Foods Vegan Recipes to Enjoy Every Day

Always on the lookout for new vegan recipes, this book caught my eye. I had hopes that the recipes would be basic, have readily available ingredients and nutritional information and calorie counts. Sadly, that was not true for me. That said, this is a beautiful book with recipes that no doubt can be easily made where the ingredients can be found.

What I liked:
* The introduction
* Information about ingredients
* FAQs on ingredient substitution and ways to sauté without oil
* How to wash and store produce
* The author information/history
* Gorgeous photographs
* Familiar foods/recipes
* New recipe ideas
* Tasty looking baked goods – sweet and savory
* Recipe suggestions for picnics, holiday menus and which recipes freeze well
* Bean and Grain cooking time charts
* Metric Conversion information
* Excellent index

What I didn’t like:
* Nutritional information and calorie counts not provided – for someone watching those it would be helpful
* Knowing that some of the ingredients are not available where I live (small village in Lebanon) or would be prohibitively expensive.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read other books by this author? Probably
NOTE: This is a book I can see buying as a gift for a vegan family

Thank you to NetGalley and BenBella Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.
