Breve biografia
Lolah Burford, née Egan, was born in Dallas, Texas to a old Texas pioneering family. She graduated from The Hockaday School and entered Bryn Mawr College at age 16. She went to graduate school back in Texas at Southern Methodist University, where she met her husband William S. Burford, a poet and professor, with whom she had three daughters. Their academic careers took them to Missoula, Montana, where she began her writing career. The first of her six novels, Vice Avenged: A Moral Tale, was published in 1971. She was also a founder of Midsummer Playhouse on Long Island, and taught drama at the Norfleet School in New York.

One my favorite fantasies of all time. Poignant to the point of tears. Pain calls out from another time/reality. One of those books that "lingers in memory" long after you finish it. Out of print, but an ACE paperback is still available via the web. I wish it would come back into print so that others could enjoy it more easily. "...we may not follow after them; and for this reason we have now lost both the wealth and the wisdom, because we would not incline to the footprint with our mind."

Excellent historical fiction in which the history is not all that important. More, it's about the power of love (and lust) and also delves into some pretty heady things like sodomy and child abuse. A beautifully written, gritty tale.

I absolutely love this unique novel. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I was a little disappointed with the rushed ending. You can read my review here:
