What a great job the author does to put faces of people who were on this fateful ship, and it became a page tuner read for me.
These are real people that we get to meet and become part of their lives before they start their voyage on the Titanic, from the Stewards, to the passengers, both first class and steerage, and how they were not equal on that fateful night in 1912.
Filled with true facts, and real people, from Andrew Cunningham, a steward to Florence Cumings, one of the wealthy travelers. With theses two we meet their families, and become invested in their lives!
Yes, the facts of this voyage are out there, but you will feel like your on this ship, from the opulence to putting on your life jacket. I could almost feel that water, so cold with ice chunks, and then the will to survive.
I'll be look for future reads by Louella Bryant!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Black Rose Writing, and was not required to give a positive review.

Louella Bryant - Beside The Long River. It follows a young girl, Sarah, a Puritan girl who, with her family, travels to New England to start a new life. The family has to undertake a the dangerous journey to the Connecticut Valley. It is there that she first meets a Native American girl and her brother. But when the Pequot War begins, Sarah cannot try to protect her new friends. I really enjoyed this book, loved the time period it's set in and enjoyed the fast pace of the story. It was a different take, seeing this time period from a young girl's eyes and especially a girl who's behaviour is controlled. Recommend for anyone who enjoys the Colonial New England time period… (altro)

A short historical fiction novel about Connecticut in the 1600s. The author has a brisk writing style that I really enjoyed, and the historical aspect was also interesting.

I'm a math and science kind of guy, and have an overwhelming hatred of history within my heart that burns like the core of the sun. Remember Ben Stein in Ferris Buehler's movie? How can ANYone enjoy history when taught like that by a pedantic idiot? I was doomed to endure teachers like that, and worse, throughout high school, and I am still scarred by the ordeal.

Well, bitch no more. THIS book, which I happily awarded 5 stars, makes history FUN and ENGAGING, weaving moonshine facts into history lessons. I absolutely loved this book. Many chapters have surprising presidential factoids; EVERY chapter ends with a recipe!

Thank you for a WONDERFUL book. I will keep this always. I'll let you know how the recipes turn out.
