I really struggled to finish this book.
A story of three sisters that put their lives in order. One sister longs for the historical antebellum home in Kentucky. She wants to save a particular house and there's a struggle to get it. There's lots of big companies buying up land and building and the book touches on the feeling of the local people about the land being built up.
If they don't want it built up, they shouldn't sell it to developers. Kind of a no brainer.

Why am I reading books I really do not like when there are millions of books out there just waiting for me to crack them open and drink in their words!! This book was OK at times yet the chapters stretched out longer and longer until I could pull my hair out. I truly like the main character Lila Mae, but wanted to strangle her at times. In the opening chapter while the family was leaving KY to head to California they crossed over into Missouri without mentioning the only way to do this was to go over the Miss/Ohio River (confluence) is a bridge that is never mentioned in the book! Two bridges actually that are very very cool! And they cross over and stop to say good bye to KY.. So that made me want to question her geographic research and there by set the tone for me for the rest of the book.
I did not finish this book either. I got through the trip and when the 30 some odd pages of the stupidest side trip imaginable was finally over and then the next section was Lila Mae as an old woman - I just tossed it aside maybe to read when I am desperate.
