Vyvyen Brendon read History at St Anne's College, Oxford. After a career in teaching she retired as Head of History at St Mary's School, Cambridge, to take up full-time research and writing. A decent, though slightly incomplete, introduction to WWI for the novice 3rd level, or more advanced second-level, student, A little too focused on a British perspective, and a western front, perspective, perhaps, with some omissions or underdeveloped points. Still has merit though overall
