Francis is a cat who is happy almost all of the time. The only time that Francis is not happy, is when it is dark outside. Francis is scared of the dark. Francis hears something in the tree which frightens him even more. Turns out, it is another cat who helps him to safety inside. By the end of the story he is back inside with his owner, Ben, inside his house safely.

The story can teach many great lessons to young children. Younger children tend to be scared of certain things pertaining to the unknown, like the monster under their bed. This story can teach younger children to not worry about those kinds of thing. Francis in the story thought that there was a monster in the tree, when it turns out it was just another cat like him! Francis the cat is afraid of the whispery hissy monster in the tree outside his house. This book is short and sweet, with art that will capture children's attention. A good read for kindergartners, that will teach them about overcoming fear with the help of a friend.

Scoot loves to chase things. One day, his hobby got the best of him. He chased a balloon that was in the air, and it took him all over the place. He was here and there, on top of hills, and he even made knew friends. He was happy as long as the wind was blowing and the sun was shining. The day started to turn to night, and the wind died down. Scoot started to miss home because his fun was coming to an end. He missed being with Sally. How will he find his way back? Scoot heard a voice calling for him, and he followed it all the way back home. He was with Sally and was glad to be back home. This story touches on the importance of being careful of what you do and wish for in a sense. Scoot loves to chase things, but what would have happened to him if Sally would not have been calling for him? Would he have found his way back home then because he was not worried about going back when he was having fun? He did not pay attention to his trail or path he took away from his home. Be careful what one wishes for because somethings do not turn out the way they are expected to. Another lesson I got from this cook was to think before one acts. If Scoot would have been thinking that he could never catch the balloon maybe he would not have ventured out as far and paid attention to the path he took away from his home so he could get back when he was ready. Scoot did not think that his fun would end; he was only thinking in the moment.… (altro)
