This story is about identical twin boys, Matt and Chris, the latter gay, who have become emotionally estranged from their wealthy, despotic father. Their father has imposed his own idealistic conditions in order for them to access their somewhat sizeable trust funds; but neither son can or wants to conform to these conditions, the pressure of which sends Matt down the path to alcoholism. I have to admit that, when it became clear that Chris’ love affair with his college friend and housemate, Aiden, was integral (with some graphic descriptions) to the story, I did start to wonder whether or not this book was for me. However, it was very hard not to find these twin boys instantly likeable and not many pages into the book you begin to care very deeply about them. Instead of feeling uncomfortable with Chris and Aiden’s relationship, I was smitten by the depth, tenderness and utmost sincerity of it. The ending is poignant and solid proof that blood really is thicker than water.… (altro)

This was the sequel to Expectations and we rejoin twins Matt and Chris and Chris’s husband Aiden. Having enjoyed Expectations, it was like putting on your favourite slippers; the three young men felt like my best friends. This is not an action-packed story but it is very emotionally charged. There are new dilemmas, new misunderstandings and new tragedies which can either make or break each of the trio: Matt still has his personal demons to contend with and Chris and Aiden’s relationship is as intense as it was and both of the latter still have unpleasant, scarring memories of their pasts. Whilst this book is a sequel, Liz very deftly manages to make this a stand-alone novel but I would defy anyone to not want to read the first one. Liz’s ability to draw the reader into her characters leaves you wanting more. They have grown up a little and with new responsibilities and future plans, I hope we haven’t said goodbye to the twins and Aiden.

Back for a third time with the likeable trio of twins Matt and Chris and Chris's husband Aiden. Back with a vengeance!

The three young men are as engaging as always – the bond between the identical twins is just as strong and Aiden and Chris just as in love as they ever were.

A new set of challenges, hurdles, loves and losses find their way into their lives. There are touch-and-go moments, moments of intense passion and tenderness, moments of pathos, moments of joy, sympathy and achievement.

Liz's style continues to be engaging and compelling – these three main characters have always, throughout books one and two, represented people whom you wished you had as neighbours or good friends and in book three remain so, if not even more. It is quite a feat to be able to make a fictional character someone you would wish to meet and Liz manages this not only with one, but with three of hers.

I don't want to say too much more of the story – it would spoil it for this excellent sequel. What I can say is that you will enjoy and be engulfed with what life holds for our three friends and Liz's crowning glory at the end leaves you wanting for more.

Rhett O'Neil is pleasantly surprised to learn his grandfather is leaving the family business to him. He's loved flying for as long as he can remember. The idea of continuing their charter flight business leaves him excited. But his grandfather also lets him in a secret. The business has been collaborating with the FBI to assist in their efforts to break up human trafficking rings. And it's time to bring Rhett into the fold.

Rhett's more than happy to help with the FBI missions. And he's even more inspired when he learns his grandfather started doing the missions after the death of Rhett's twin, Annabelle. It's a testament to her memory he's glad to carry. But things go amiss on the first mission. Not only is he forced to cross paths with his estranged mother, but he comes face-to-face with one of the traffickers. And he returns home to his husband, Kaden, more than a little worse for wear.

But Rhett remains determined to bring down the traffickers at whatever the cost. And as he's soon to find out, the cost may be greater than he'd ever imagined...

--

Can I just say that I hope no one ever has parents like Rhett's? Seriously. I was pretty much appalled with them from the beginning. And it all just seems to go downhill from there.

Kaden and Rhett make for an interesting couple. There's something about their playful banter that helped keep the book light despite some of the heavy plot points. It was so evident how much they care for each other throughout the story.

This book underscores the meaning of family. So many times people talk about the family you choose versus the family you're born with. And as much as we often thing we're stuck with the latter, I don't think we should necessarily feel that way. Family is about love, trust, and caring. If you don't have that with the people who are supposed to be your family, then go out and find it elsewhere. The people who give you those things because they want to (blood or otherwise)--not with some begrudging attitude--are the ones who you should truly value in your life.
