Gwenda Bond ha 7 eventi trascorsi. (show) Young Adult Panel!
GIRLS & MONSTERS an event for teens with authors April Genevieve Tucholke, Meagan Spooner, Gwenda Bond, & Megan Shepherd Four talented young adult authors will share with us the secrets behind their craft and will discuss why they love writing. Meet the authors and have your books signed! April Genevieve Tucholke and her husband -- a librarian, former rare-book dealer, and journalist--live in Oregon. Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is her first novel. It is a gothic thriller romance with shades of Stephen King and F. Scott Fitzgerald, set against a creepy summertime backdrop. Kirkus Reviews calls it "A rich blend of gothic horror and modern romance, studded with nods toward literary, cinematic and musical classics. A lush setting and provocative characters elevate this debut above others." Meagan Spooner has traveled with her family all over the world to places like Egypt, South Africa, the Arctic, Greece, Antarctica, and the Galapagos, and there's a bit of every journey in the stories she writes. Shadowlark is the 2nd book in Meagan's dystopian Skylark series, whichBooklist describes as "even stronger and more gripping than the debut and is sure to ensnare further loyal readers." In addition to writing The Skylark Trilogy, Meagan is the co-author of the forthcoming These Broken Stars with Amie Kaufman. Gwenda Bond is the author of the YA novels Blackwood, The Woken Gods, and the forthcoming Girl on a Wire (2014). Blackwood is currently in development as a TV series from MTV, Grammnet and Lionsgate TV. She is a contributing writer for Publishers Weekly, her non-fiction work has appeared in the Washington Post and she has been a guest on NPR's Weekend Edition. She lives in a hundred-year-old house in Lexington, Kentucky, with her husband, author Christopher Rowe. Kirkus Reviews reports that The Woken Gods"...transforms mythology from a boring school subject into a tangible, engaging story."
Megan Shepherd is one of our favorite local writers! She grew up in her family's independent bookstore in North Carolina. An avid reader and world traveler who spent several years in the Peace Corps, Megan now lives with her husband in Asheville, North Carolina. The Madman's Daughter is based on H.G. Wells's "The Island of Dr. Moreau" and told from the point of view of the mad doctor's 16-year-old daughter. School Library Journal describes it as a "dark novel that blends the basic premise of the original with new insights, characters, and terror." The sequel, Her Dark Curiosity, is due out in January.
