- She was the daughter of a Methodist Minister, Arthur Sidney Lyne (1878-1949). In 1929 and 1930 she was living with her parents at 46 Mapperley Road, Nottingham. She was a student at Newnham College, Cambridge 1927-1930. She obtained a Diploma in Education from Sheffield University in 1931. She joined Southlands College (now part of the University of Roehampton) as a lecturer. In 1932 she gave an address at the Methodist Union Conference at the Royal Albert Hall. In 1934 she married Arthur R. Bielby. In 1939 they were living at 8 Church Road, Ashford, Kent. She had two children: Paul R., born in 1936 and John N.L. born in 1939.
