She graduated from Colgate University in 1997 and holds an MFA in nonfiction from the University of Arizona. A great book on athletics, drive and female athletes. For your daughter, niece, or any one with a little bit of athletic drive.
This memoir of an ice skater who "failed" while sinking into anorexia was not the book I was expecting from the description. I wound up skimming a lot of it because it was just boring.

A compelling but somewhat scattered memoir of Bertine's life as a skater, rower, and triathlete. Her story is interesting but the writing style is hard to get invovled with. I actually liked the way she bounced back and forth in time to tell her story; stuck in South America on a horror of a touring ice show back to training as an amatuer in a cold rink in Yonkers. I think there is probably alot more depth of feeling but her breezy style makes it hard to see. Perhaps that is the intent but it didn't completely work.
