Gerard Benson was born in London, England on April 9, 1931. For two years, he was an intelligence coder in Gibraltar for the Royal Navy. He taught voice production, diction, and verse-speaking at the Central School for Speech and Drama for 20 years. He published 10 volumes of poems and poetry mostra altro collections for children including The Magnificent Callisto, Evidence of Elephants, and To Catch an Elephant. He also edited several poetry collections including This Poem Doesn't Rhyme. He died on April 28, 2014 at the age of 83. I have never seen any of the poems on the underground - I didn't know it was happening. The very idea of it caught my imagination; I just loved the idea of sitting on the tube, watching out for random gifts of inspiration. I also love the book itself. The poems are all necessarily short, which makes them great for a beginner like me, and they are not carefully ordered into categories as anthologies so frequently are. Each page turn is a delightful adventure, and the content is so varied that you just never know what you're going to meet on the next page. And of course, in amongst all the poems are a few that I just love, and which I will follow up. The provision of illustrations and facsimiles of original drafts makes a wonderful addition to the whole and all in all, I think it's a wonderful collection.… (altro)
