Wendy Hart Beckman is an award-winning freelance writer, editor, “book doctor,” college instructor and corporate writer. She has published more than 250 freelance articles in regional and national magazines and newspapers, and has received 13 awards for her writing and desktop publishing. Her articles have been published in Writer’s Digest, Cincinnati Magazine, M.D. News Magazine, Builder/Architect, Veterans Health System Journal and Qualified Remodeler, among others.
She has a master’s degree in English—with a concentration in Editing and Publishing—with a graduate certificate in Professional Writing from the University of Cincinnati.
Wendy’s first book, a middle-grade nonfiction titled Artists and Writers of the Harlem Renaissance, was published by Enslow Publishers, Inc., in 2002. National Parks in Crisis: Debating the Issues (Enslow) and Communication Tools Made Easy (Kendall/ Hunt) were published in 2004. Dating, Relationships, and Sexuality: What Teens Should Know (2006, Enslow) and Robert Cormier: Banned, Challenged and Censored (2008, Enslow) round out her published books to date. Wendy is also currently working on a novel about a women’s singing group as well as a murder mystery that takes place on the west side of Cincinnati.
She taught “Writing for Business” and “Scientific and Technical Writing” at the University of Cincinnati from 1999 until 2004. Also from 1999 until 2004, Wendy taught “Strength Through Cultural Diversity” for Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Wendy has conducted several workshops for beginning writers who wished to get published. Wendy has a husband, three sons, a dog and a cat. In her other lives, Wendy has worked for the National Park Service, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Veterans’ Administration. She worked in corporate communications for Westinghouse and Fluor Daniel, among others. She holds a second-degree black belt in tae kwon do and is an avid musician.
