Backwater Virgin by Steven Becker is the latest novel in the Kurt Hunter series. It is a companion/continuation of Wood’s Justice by Steven Becker. Both novels are set in the Virgin Islands. I would recommend reading the novels in order starting with Wood’s Justice. While there is some recap of Wood’s Justice in this book, you might miss some nuance. I think it would still be a good novel if you are only interested in the Kurt Hunter series only.

The story line of the novel is based on Kurt Hunter being informed of a murder in the National Park on St. John’s Island in the Virgin Islands by his friend Mac Travis. Kurt informs the local agent in the park and his bosses in Atlanta. His boss in Atlanta sends him to the Virgin Islands to assist with the murder investigation. The murder is part of a drug smuggling operation.… (altro)

Wood’s Reward by Steven Becker is a look back at the early days of the Mac Travis series. This book assists in understanding Mac’s history with Wood prior to the start of the Mac Travis series. This book resolves around a bridge reconstruction project when Mac was an employee of Wood’s construction company. Most of the story revolves around the finding of a treasure while working on the bridge. The treasure is related to a dispute between two salvage operators during the Civil War. The story gets into the difference between salvage operators and treasure hunters in present day. There is a conflict between Mac and Wood with a treasure hunter who is trying to steal the treasure from them.

This is a good story that will help you understand Mac’s character and back story for the Mac Travis series. A good read for anyone who has started the Mac Travis series to get an introduction to some of the characters and locations that show up in the series.

Wood’s Justice by Steven Becker is the latest installment in the Mac Travis series. This book is set in the Virgin Islands with a few new characters, the return of Pip, and inclusion of Kurt Hunter from another series by Steven Becker. This book involves the search for historic pirate treasure in the Virgin Islands. Pip travels to the Virgin Islands to assist an old friend. He gets kidnapped and the kidnapper reaches out to Mac regarding Pip’s safety. Mac travels to the Virgin Islands to see if he can rescue Pip. The release of Pip is based on Mac assisting with some treasure hunting. The new characters are the wife and daughter of an old friend of Mac from the Florida Keys.

I really enjoy these stories by Steven Becker that involve the treasure hunts that he has been involved in several of the novels in the Mac Travis series and his pirate adventure Tides of Fortune series set in the 1700’s. These are good quick reads that give you a good idea of the geography where the novel is set.

FROM AMAZON: Blackmail on the high seas

Kendra Hale and Ian Starbuck, agents for the FBI’s Special Projects Group and fresh from their recent case solving a string of murders on the Maine coast, are tasked with stopping a group of wreckers, modern-day criminal counterparts of 19th-century marine salvors. Technology is their weapon of choice, and blackmail is the payoff. Can the duo stop a plot to destroy an iconic harbor on the New England coast?

Filled with the action, adventure, and seaworthy settings you’ve come to expect in best-selling author Steven Becker’s books, the second book in this new series promises not to disappoint.… (altro)
