As a child, MiMi believed that she had seen God, and that he had chosen her for a special purpose, to be revealed later. This belief made her distance from family and other schoolchildren. Circumstances cause great changes in MiMi’s life, but eventually she believes she has discovered what God wants her to do. But is it true? Was she really chosen? Did she accomplish God’s wishes?
MiMi tells her story without embellishment or rationalization. She admits her insecurities, her anxiety over God’s plan for her, and her eventual outcomes. The reader is brought to question whether Jews can still believe in the coming of the Messiah. Are good works and good intentions enough?
The author, Pamela Becker, is independent and self-published, meaning that she has no literary agent or publishing house backing her. I hope this was a choice, because I can’t believe professionals in the publishing field would pass up this amazing, well-constructed, and well-written book. I enjoyed every chapter and give Memoirs of a False Messiah an unhesitating 5 stars.

This slim volume kept me riveted the entire way through.

This is the story of MiMi, whose sad childhood and family estrangement leads her to reinterpret Judaism and become a messiah and champion to a community of women who feel empowered by her words.

Told from the present and in flashbacks, the book follows MiMi from her youth through her path as a controversial spiritual leader of women.

I look forward to reading Pamela Becker's future works.
