Billy De Beck

A nice little overview of a legacy strip which I think is taken for granted these days. Nevertheless, the book is docked a half a star for not including more than two strips from pretty much any of the DeBeck continuing stories. A couple of complete adventures would've made this so much better. The DeBeck/Barney Google years are well overdue for a more "deluxe" treatment. Snuffy Smith, obviously, can fend for himself.

This is a collection and reference of "Barney Google" and its spin-off comic strip, "Snuffy Smith" by Billy Debeck, and then Fred Lasswell. The two strips have lasted over 75 years, but I don't quite see why. The artwork and writing on this hillbilly strip have declined over the years, and they were not that good to begin with. But it is of historical interest, and deserves a compilation volume for its longevity if nothing else.
