- His father was eldest brother of Admiral Earl Beatty of the North Sea. Charles or "Longfield" was author of numerous military/historical studies, one book of comparative religion, and three esoteric fictional novels. The second Husband of author Joan Grant who dedicated her own "Life as Carola" to him, he was a close friend of Dennis Wheatley and a chess aficionado who invented a four dimensional version of the game.
