Ewan Battersby

This is a fantasy peopled by animals. The characters include a ferret, an ermine, warthogs, otters, a mongoose, a gibbon, a badger, apes, stoats, ocelots, horses, wolves, aardwolves, pine martins, a cat, a terrier, a mandrill, a sloth and a Serathian bear. As the bear is the arch-villain, he warrants a description, as do his accomplices, a cat and a gibbon. The heroes, Jock, a weasel, and Aramis, a ferret, are known through their words and actions. Jock has a Scottish accent and calls his friend 'laddie' which made me think that the book was a little too English for Australians who are unlikely to know what these animals look like. I was surprised to find that the authors are Australian.
It is a straggling fantasy that has some elements to recommend it but would benefit from some good editing.… (altro)
